Medical Emergency Prevention and Management for the Dental Professional

Dr. Weaver received his Bachelors of Science from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, WV. He obtained his dental training at West Virginia University, and completed a General Practice Residency at Charleston Area Medical Center.
He returned to Morgantown for his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After completing his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he entered Medical School at West Virginia University. He received his MD in 1994.
He is the current Program Director for the West Virginia University Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Weaver is Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and is currently the Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
This course will provide information on the prevention and management of common medical emergencies in the dental office. Emphasis will be placed on medical history review and clinical decision-making for the entire dental team.

Infection Prevention and Control

Dr. Chipps graduated from WVU School of Dentistry, Dept of Dental Hygiene in 1998. After practicing as a dental hygienist, she returned to dental school at WVU and graduated with her DDS in 2008.
She currently serves as the Associate Dean for Clinical Education and Patient Care as well as an Associate Professor in the Dept. of restorative Dentistry at WVU School of Dentistry.
Dr. Chipps has served as infection control compliance officer in private practice, is currently the Chair of the Biohazard & Infection Control Committee at WVU School of Dentistry. She completed the CDIPC through OSAP in 2022 and maintains this current certification.
This course is intended to provide review and updates for infection prevention and control in the dental setting including:
- Foundations of infection prevention and control utilizing existing guidelines from regulatory agencies,
- protecting dental healthcare workers and patients utilizing the most recent recommendations,
- sterilization processes and monitoring regulations,
- and dental unit waterline safety and regulations.
